We’ve just witnessed the 1st chapter of a most engaging story! The Italian Rossi finally obliges Italia’s dreams by riding the evocative (but arduous Ducati), and from 12th place passes 9 other riders to find himself challenging wait a minute… the Australian who for the past few years just happened to be the only dude to tame the feisty red machine.
Speaking of red (’cos it was clearly red mist when you check the measured way Rossi passed the previous 9 riders, but went totally braindead when taking on Stoner), his foolhardy move served to show Rossi’s lack of belief in the Ducati’s performance (I genuinely believe Rossi’s switch to Ducati was emotional/ financial, and nothing to do with realistically winning this year’s title). It was a dumb attempt at an overtake; the marshalling throughout the race was a disgrace; Stoner dissing Rossi at the end was priceless!
Most interesting for me was Lorenzo! He preserved his tyres well; didn’t get phased when being passed (but clearly had the pace as demonstrated when he put distance between everyone towards the end of the race); and in 7 years time will be a more successful champion than Rossi…and the biggest joke is I’m a Rossi fan!
